Blog Post #2

The reason we can read both the essay “Mythinformation” by Langdon Winner and the novel “Neuromancer” by William Gibson is because they are both so focused on technology. When we read two pieces based solely on the same topics, its much easier to look at how certain people feel and analyze the topic. When looking at two different pieces on the same subject but with different views, we are able to see the many ways the subject can be evaluated.  Even when two authors give the same facts on a certain topic, they can still give different biases or opinions which helps us as readers learn to develop our own thoughts on the subject. It is also good that we read these two pieces next to  each other as a class because as students we will be take different sides and views on hw technology is discussed in the two pieces and this allows us to have better class discussions. We’ll be able to add to the two different opinions from the two  pieces and create a multitude of our own; it becomes a domino affect of knowledge and beliefs.

Winner discusses the revolutions of technology while Gibson writes in present tense about advanced technology. Although these aren’t exactly different opinions, they’re different points of view on technology. Any difference in literature is great to study which is why we should be reading them in this class. In English, we’re supposed to read and discuss literature. By having even tiny differences we are able to study them. With close readings like these, were able to bring new ideas to class to discuss as a group and it will be very beneficial for the course as a whole.
